How lax/stringent are gun laws where you live…?
A sword ain’t a bad choice if you know how to use it in hand-to-hand scenarios… But if you want power from a distance, better buy a gun.
And you probably will find (once you master it) easier to handle a gun than a sword. Although you gotta to consider that, in distress, your accuracy is going to take a hit with a gun. Shaking hands and the like… I’m not saying you are a coward or anything, but you have to consider the rush of adrenaline going through your veins. Combat is a distressing situation for anyone who is not trained to do it.

You make a great point, but I’m afraid of guns and have no one to teach me. I’m mainly concerned about defending myself at home. Pepper spray under the pillow?? The main problem with women & weapons is if they get it away from you, you’re fucked.

Guns won’t kill ye, okay? Although the guns getting away from you is a good point… Maybe you should go to some instructor who teaches how to use guns. I bet there are dozens where you live. Look at the ads on classifieds, look at the TV… I don’t know, but I bet there MUST be someone who teaches that stuff. Take some self-defense classes if you aren’t willing to use guns…
But I tell you, you have to lose that fear.
